3 Transitions-Peter Campus

Advances in technology have allowed artists to explore many different mediums. Along with many other types of mediums, video art is as much about the process as it is about the final product. In his work Three Transitions, Peter Campus uses the inherent attributes of video to tell a story of ‘the self’. The 3 transitions that the title is referring to are all transitions from one form of self to another. In the first transition, Campus superimposes one angle of filming over another to create the illusion that he is crawling through himself. In the second transition, he uses the technology of the “blue screen” to create a self-portrait. A he paints his physical face with blue paint, another image of his face appears on the video. The third transition is from Campus’ portrait to nothing. He uses a video effect to make his live face look like a portrait that he is burning. Campus completely transforms the classic idea of a self-portrait using video technology though his piece. His idea of a moving, dynamic and interactive self-portrait is able to be achieved though video as opposed to something static like a painting.

Here I am! Ughhh, I've tried so hard to rotate this, sorry.
